Prejudice!

Prejudice according to Wikipedia is a prejudgement, an assumption made about someone or something without having adequate knowledge to be able to do so with guaranteed accuracy. The word prejudice is most commonly used to refer to as a preconceived judgement towards a people or a person because of race, social class, gender, ethnicity, age, disability, obesity, religion, sexual orientation or other personal characteristics.

I gave my 12 years old niece, Mathematics tuition as a preparation for her UPSR examination this year. Being quite weak and half-hearted in studying maths. I have to boost her enthusiasm and encouragement to overcome her studying problem. She admitted that she dislike Mathematics lesson very much due to not encouraging circumstances she encountered with her former maths teacher. I have to find the most simple solution and explanation to teach her and make her understand.
In school she was asked by the Maths teacher who taught her Maths revision. She told the teacher it was me the aunt who teaches her. The maths teacher asked my niece who am I? Being naive she told her I am a kindergarten teacher. Yes, that's my career at the moment.

The maths teacher told my niece, " As a kindergarten teacher, your aunt is not qualified to teach Mathematics of the primary school"!.
I asked my niece whether I gave her the wrong answer, she replied, "No". If the answer is "Yes", I should have agreed with the maths teacher statement. My sister was very upset with the teacher's statement and wanted to confront her. I told my sister, we do not know the actual conversation or may be I did not follow exactly the teacher's formula. My sister disagree with me, saying as a teacher that's a terrible thing to say to other people. I agreed with her.

What the maths teacher had spoken did not disgrace or humiliate me. I just assumed that, this is a result of the maths teacher not having a proper diet...he...he..he...

Moral of the story is, don't pre-judge people. Get to know people as individuals before you decide whether or not to like them, criticized or hate them. Treat people the way you want them to treat you. Don't go along with the crowd when people are being unfair to someone and stand up for people who are being treated with prejudice. Learn about other people, their cultures and way of life.

p/s. love to watch Pride and Prejudice.

    aunt T,
May be you could take some extra credit time to teach him.The reward is worth money can buy. Sometime I have to be very very strict and mean...he..he..to my children while teaching them. You know children nowadays, like Phua Chu Kang said, " you don't play-play with your mama aahh! "
